Arts on the Move
Sun Yu-li's - Land Before Time Sculpture Tour Singapore 2006/07
Bringing Arts closer to the people and tourist visiting Singapore

Singapore, 6th September 2006 - As Singapore gear up for the IMF/Worldbank Meetings and Singapore Biennale 2006, Marketspace and the homegrown top sculpture artist Sun Yu-li have partnered together to bring you Arts on the Move – Land Before Time! An art project that bring arts to closer to Singaporeans and tourists visiting Singapore.

Marketspace would like to announce that starting from 11th Sep 2006 till Feb 2007, you will be able to see the sculptures at major shopping malls, hotels and tourist attractions. The tour will start at the City Link Mall, West Atrium from 11th Sep 2006. An official launch of the tour will be on 5th October 2006, 10am at Paragon Shopping Mall. The sculptures will then be moving on to Sentosa follow by other locations and will be on display for 2 weeks at each location.

“Arts on the Move” inspires to change the concept and impression of sculpture arts. Sculpture has always been perceived as big and heavy artwork fixed in a location once installed. Through this sculpture tour, we hope to bring sculpture arts to the people rather then people to the sculpture arts. This is an initiative to make arts available to people from all walks of life and tourists visiting Singapore. We want to promote the arts and make it part of our daily life.

‘Art on the Move’ features Sun Yu-li's latest series of sculptures using hand-forged metal sheets. This sculpture series has been previously exhibited at the Art House, Esplanade and Singapore Arts Museum.

Through this artist and corporate partnership, we hope to bring Arts to another level where more corporate companies can be involved in promoting homegrown artists & their artworks. This is the first step of a longer term plan to bring Mr. Sun Yu-li's sculptures on a tour around Asia and the world's major cities.

Arts on the Move is co-sponsored by Rhema Events and Arts Services Pte Ltd and is supported by National Arts Council.

Concept of - Land Before Time
At the beginning of civilisation, nature and people co-existed in peaceful harmony. There was a common ground amongst different people and cultures, where differences went away for all to share and celebrate in the same way, everyday activities like hunting, dancing, worshipping, celebration, fishing, courtship, parenthood, friendship, collaboration and nature."Land before Time" reminds us how Singapore's melting pot of diversity sets a wonderful example to this world, of different races and religions living in peaceful harmony. About Artist
Sun Yu-li has been actively involved in Singapore and regional arts scene for the last 20 years. He was the winner of the prestigious 1991 Republic of China Modern Sculpture Award and has also been involved in many high-profile projects, like the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Sculpture.

Sun Yu-li’s sculptures and artworks can be found in many locations around Singapore, such as the Ministry of National Development, the Ministry of Information, Communication & Arts, Paragon, Suntec City, URA Center, Dhoby Ghaut MRT station and several other commercial and government buildings. Sun Yu-li’s work has also been featured in Singapore-China postal stamps, Singapore commemorative coins and EZ-link cards.

The sculptor’s 30 years of research into the Universal Language, a language explaining the origin of life from a dot (node/landmark), extending to a line (path/boundary), spreading to a plane (place/domain), finally forming the volume (architectural space/existential space), is the guiding principle behind the creation of Land before Time. Land before Time in itself embodies the language of life – the Universal Language.
